Muharram 2020!

Salam Alaykum wr wb

[To the righteous it will be said], “O reassured soul, Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], And enter among My [righteous] servants And enter My Paradise.” (89:27-30)

On behalf of the Islamic Unity Society (IUS), we would like to extend our condolences and most sincere sympathy to the Imam of our time, Imam Mahdi AJF, to our Scholars, and to all believers in the world, and to you, dear ones, on the occasion of the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (as).

We stand in these great days on two great occasions, namely: –

  • Bidding farewell to the year and welcoming the new Hijri year 1442.
  • The memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) in Karbala.

Imam Hussain Blood Donation Campaign

Imam Hussain Blood Donation Campaign (IHBDC) would like to thank donors who’ve come forward to donate blood and save lives over the past few months. We encourage everyone who is eligible, fit and well to donate blood in honour of Imam Hussain (as) this Muharram. Most donor centres remain open and running as normal with extra safety measures for donors and staff in place.

Visit our page for the latest session information near you.

Did you know that donating blood isn’t the only way you can save lives this Muharram? Have you recently had COVID-19? A transfusion of convalescent plasma can give a seriously ill patient of COVID-19 a significant advantage in their recovery.

IHBDC is rising to the challenge to do our part to respond to the current pandemic and support our communities. We’ve partnered with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) and Muslim & Non-Muslim organisations, eg. Turn To Love, WhoisHussain, Muslim Doctor Association, and approximately 20 mosques / centres  to come together to drive a new plasma donation campaign across the Muslim community that will reach a peak during Muharram and Arbaeen.

Who has the highest antibodies for plasma donation? They are:

  • Male – men typically have higher antibody levels than women
  • Over 35 – a greater percentage of the plasma from this age group is suitable for clinical trials
  • Severely affected by COVID-19 – the highest antibody plasma has come from donors who were hospitalised
  • Asian – high numbers of donors from Asian communities have plasma suitable for treating others.

Despite COVID-19 continuing to impact our daily lives, we’d like you and/or your local centre to join us in this effort to respond to it by saving lives via sharing common marketing materials (which’ll be made available very soon) across your networks via text, email, social media, video, TV and website. Please contact us on giveblood@ius.org.uk

For more information on convalescent plasma donation please visit NHSBT or SNBTS website.
