Saira Bibi was crippled with polio at a young age. She reveals feeling different from the other students when first attending Al-Qaim School but through her will power has not let this hamper her studies. She admits “life has been difficult when my polio became severe”, walking to school became impossible and her brother was too embarrassed to carry her. With physiotherapy, however, she has resumed school much to her delight. Saira’s mother, Naseem Bibi, works as a maid to pay for Saira’s physiotherapy. She is the sole earner in a family of 8 children. Saira’s father is too sick to work. His only wish is for Saira to complete her matriculation (GCSEs) at least, so that she is not a burden on others. Our visit gave Saira Bibi hope; we promised that her right to education and medical expenses would be met. Each physiotherapy session costs Saira’s mother 400rupees (£4.50); her cost of transport is 300rupees (£3.40) per day.
Please help Saira Bibi complete her education or help towards the cost of her physiotherapy. Please make a donation today.
