This year, over 15 IUS members are running the presitigious BUPA Great Manchester Run 2008. This is a 10km run taking place on the 18th May 2008. There is a considerable lack of Muslim involvement in these large scale charity activities and so it’s of great importance for us to get involved not only for the charity and health aspect but for our general involvement in community events such as this. This is the first year we are doing such a project but we aim to participate in more events like this in the future. Inshallah we can use this event to raise as much money as possible for a variety of charities. 

The charities that the IUS are running for are:

1)      Iraqi Orphan Foundation-Take part in several projects, including monthly sponsorship of orphans, supplying food, drink, clothes etc to orphans, funding education and teaching skills, distributing things at particular times of year (e.g. new clothes at Eid, cold water containers in the summer, blankets and heaters in the winter). 2)      Lady Fatemah Trust-The mission of the Trust is to alleviate poverty across geographic and cultural borders, and adopts philosophy of empowerment; for it is only then that a long lasting solution to poverty can be found. They have projects going on in the following countries: Africa. India, Iraq, Iran, Middle East and Pakistan.
