About the IUS

Set up in 1995, the Islamic Unity Society (IUS) now has over 500 members across the UK. Our membership includes GCSE and College students, undergraduates at universities and young professionals. We currently operate in London, Manchester and Leeds and run solely by volunteers. We have successfully been a registered charity since 1997 (Charity number: 1066910).

As students and young professionals ourselves, we are aware of the pressures encountered whilst studying in university and in the work place, especially as Muslims. The IUS hopes to recreate the security and community that many of us have left behind. We organise events and offer a wide range of services all year round. In the process, we hope to bring together students and young professional of all ethnic backgrounds to meet and learn from one another. This will also facilitate the future development of our communities

Aims and Objectives

The IUS aims to promote social and cultural cohesion within a multi-cultural Britain based on Islamic principles (in accordance with the Shia school of thought), through empowering young people. Specifically through:
  • Advancing education concerning Islam through the promotion of good practice within the community and encouraging tolerance.
  • Improving the quality of life and enhancing opportunities for our members through providing facilities in the interests of social welfare and recreation.
  • Assisting the development of youth and university students through five key areas of development. That being physical, mental, spiritual, social and emotional
